May 9th, 2006: Today is surgery day for me. I am nervous but reserved. The surgery went well, no complications. I had to stay all day in the recovery room because they didn't have a bed in CCU or ICU for me. That is standard procedure following RNY surgery. By 7:00pm that night they had found a room and I was transferred by 8:00pm. The only bad part of the recovery room was how everyone was talking about chocolate cake and McDonalds. I wanted to scream!!!
The next day following surgery, I went for my leak test. The contrast that you have to swallow tasted nasty!!! Plus, I was afraid to take a big gulp, which they were sort of encouraging me to do. Anyway, no leaks!! The rest of the day went smoothly, I was way overtired and was a little depressed but I made it and they transferred me to a step down unit. That sucked because my roommate stayed up very late talking on the phone and she had some friends bring in McDonalds for dinner, while I got my 30cc cup of chicken broth! I was really mad. The next day I got the clearance to go home, and I couldn't get out of there quick enough. By the way, I didn't really have an issue with pain. But I had four C-Sections, so this was a breeze compared to those!
