I'm Rebecca and I have been praying for a new beginning... and after a year there is a date!

The Approval Process
December 2005
I have worked towards approval for over a year now. When I started this process it was May of 2005 and I have struggled with three insurance companies going through two denials. It's been a difficult year of highs and lows and I had given up my quest to find approval for this surgery.
I have waited on the Lord for this decision, kept my focus on Him throughout the entire process. My family has been a wonderful support system for me as well. My husband was as excited about this for me as I was. The kids were behind me as well and I was so thankful for that.
Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. You will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you."
Ecc. 3:11a
He hath made everything beautiful in His time.

It's been three months since I logged on here. I had given up all posibilities of having this surgery. Then while in Phoenix for my nephews wedding i was having breakfast with a friend who is more like a sister to me. Judy asked how the process was going and I told here that the process was over. She then asked why I didn't take out a policy on myself to cover the surgery. Bottom line was we couldn't afford it. Then she said to me, "Well, I could pay for the policy so you could have the surgery." I couldn't believe my ears. I feel into tears and can't believe how blessed I have been by that fact that I have a friend who wants to pay for my insurance so I can have this surgery. I can not believe the generosity of this woman. She has been a dear friend for years.
So I am in the process of researching the different ones and hope to settle fairly quickly to be able to move ahead.

I have signed up for BCBS and await the card and March 1 when the policy becomes activated. I will then send in my request for approval. This waiting is the hardest part.

Well, it's been 7 days and I am so anxious to hear. Part of me is quite patient for when I do get the call I don't want to hear her say "you were denied." So I'm waiting and praying for a positive outcome. I'll let you know.

I got a call from Karen at the doctors office and she said that I should be hearing from the insurance company tomorrow... Thursday the 30th. I'm so excited!

IT'S A DONE DEAL!!!
I got the call from Karen today and I'm been approved for surgery. I am scheduled for April 19th! It's been a long year trying to get this put through! The fight is over! Thanks everybody for your prayers, for your support, for just being there!!

I drove down to Pittsburgh yesterday and stayed the night for my pre-op work up today. A full history and physical with lots of blood work and x-rays and EKG. Nothing out of the norm but just one step closer.
I report to Allegheny Hospital the 19th for surgery.
I'm soooo excited!!
SURGICAL SECTION

Well, it's over or really just beginning. I had my surgery Wednesday. Everything went like clockwork. I saw the Lord involved every step on the way! Major blessings every day. Thank you to all who continued to pray me through this process. Dr. Colella and his hospital staff are the top! They are extreamly proactive and follow through on every aspect of recover. I was discharged on the 22nd and Ralph and I are staying at the Marriott two days just to be certain all goes well. We live in a small town three hours away and want medical help close at hand should I need it.
I'm keeping to the routine and all is going grand!

I am 20 days post-op and things were going well until this week. I'm so tired and I'm having quite a bit of abdominal pain on the right side. It started with a sharp somewhat pulling or tearing sensation. Not sure what's causing this, but I'm a little worried.
Going to call the doctor!

Called the Doctor yesterday and he wanted to see me ASAP. So we packed up and drove the three hours to Pittsburgh. We stayed the night and I went in to see Dr. Colella at 9 AM. They paged him and he came to see me. Bottom line is I have a hernia. Small, but that's what caused the pain. He also felt a hemotoma. So I am to rest and keep the fluids going.

It's been a slow process losing weight. I haven't been able to do any serious exercise as I came down with Mono. I'm so very tired and have come down with a secondary infection. I'm on antibiotics right now and have to just hug my sheets for a while to get well.
July 2006
I have finally recovered from Mono and went to Topsail Island for our family reunion. A wonderful week on the ocean and enjoying the weight loss. I haven't been able to get into a true exercise routine because of the initial recovery from my surgery, then caring for my daughter who came home from college with Mono and then I coming down with it and now I'm in DC with my other daughter who is quite ill. We don't know exactly what is wrong, but she has had two fainting spells where she was unconcious for at least 40 seconds as well as sevear abdominal pain. She canbe left alone so when a friend comes, I get out for a walk. I have lost 4# this week.
I'm finally getting some action!
