Stress Eating Hurricane Leslie

Mar 25, 2008

Well, I havn't really had a lot of time to devote to my page since I registered in January.  Shortly after I got it up and running I found out I had thyroid cancer.  After multiple appointments and several procedures to determine what it was I found out I had papillary carcinoma of the thyroid..  I ended up having a total thyroidectomy with a central lymph node resection.  The biopsies after the surgery did show malignancy of the entire thyroid and lymph nodes.  My next step will be to do the radioactive iodine therapy on 5-9-08.  I guess after that I will do frequent blood work and body scans.  I may be looking at another surgery to removed more lymph nodes but I'm hoping to not have to do that.

The scary part of this whole thing for me hasn't necessarily been the cancer and it's outcome but how I'm dealing with my diet while coping with the stress of things.  I'm someone who has been obsessivly
devoted to my diet since bypass in 2-07.  Well, in the last few months while dealing with this cancer I havn't done any dieting at all.  I stopped using my food calculator, havn't been good with the vitamins and grazing a lot.  My weight has came to a standstill.  I've only lost about 20 pounds since November.  In this last month I havn't lost anything.  I guess I could consider myself lucky I havn't gained but I'm disappointed with myself at how I'm coping with the stress.  I'm eating my way through it.  Hopefully I can reverse this cuz I would love to lose another 50-100 pounds but right now it seems so far away.
