8 Days out! Wow this has been an interesting ride. I'm still not 100% sure if I am "happy" to have had this surgery but I'm certain in a week or so I will be saying that. I got to experience muscle spasms for the first time last night. NOT a good experience. The Dr said I wasn't walking enough (which I was.. as far as I know)I think it can be contributed to the fact that I took off my abdominal belt to wash it and was up and down the whole day without it. The belt has been a lifesaver to me and I don't know what I would do without it. Make sure you USE it!! But don't suffocate yourself. Just having it on with a little bit of tightness definately helps. So, I put it back on last night, through the night and this morning things seem to be going better. I am on full liquids now and am... catch this... totally excited about the variety of foods I can have. LOL!! (it is still very limited) The BTC clear liquid stage (first week) is ROUGH! I don't think I will be able to look chicken broth in the face ever again. I am a big cheese fan so I got a can of Campbells cheese soup. Fat and sugar content are fine... added some skim milk and viola! A warm yummy concoction. Considering I am in Ohio and it is currently -1 degrees, I'll take anything warm I can get. Ok, just wanted to update everybody. GOOD LUCK! to all the pre-ops, CONGRATULATIONS! to those having surgery soon, and WAY TO GO! for all the post-ops!

Boy do I remember the gas pains. They'll go away - eventually. What helped me the most (and I use that term losely because, quite honestly, nothing besides Lortab really helped) was a heating pad on my back/stomach or whereever it hurt and lots and lots of walking. Good luck! --Jen, RNY 11/12/02 -45+ pounds!

Hi all, I am home and surviving, I think. Wow these gas pains are awful! Any good advice on how to deal with them? How about some ideas on taking pills. I have to break mine up into fourths and then when they hit my pouch it feels like a rock. This clear liquids stage is the pits. My mom is here taking care of me, in the meantime taking care of my family. She has cooked them some awesome meals every night and boy do they smell good. I just make sure to "eat" before they do and make sure I am full so I don't feel left out. Overall I am doing good. Considering I am only 5 days out. I am still sore, of course but the biggest thing bothering me is the gas that just won't seem to leave. Thank you for all the well wishes while I was in the hospital. It felt so good to see 9 pages of messages from my surgery page! Thank you again everybody. You are so totally awesome! Any new post-op advice would be helpful.
