I had my first doctor's appointment today.  I am two weeks post op and feeling great!!! I have lost 15lbs since my surgery and have not had any knee pain at all!  I can't believe how good I feel.... or maybe I can't believe how bad I used to feel!!!  I have been released to return to work and am now on a soft foods diet.  I go back to the doctor in three weeks.

Surgery completed & I am home!

Jun 05, 2008

My surgery was completed without any complications.  My surgeon is so very careful and I can't tell you how much I appreciate that!!  I was in the hospital for three days... it is really good to be home!  I am still very weak and tire easily, but my husband is being wonderful to make things easier for me.  I think each day will get easier and easier.  My surgeon's office called to check on me today- I really appreciated that!  The nurse said that it is normal to feel tired and worn out.  I made my follow up appointment for two weeks.

Pre-Op and Final Nutrition Class Completed

May 22, 2008

I completed my pre-op bloodwork and paperwork and my final four hour nutrition class.  I really learned alot in the class about day to day specifics regarding what to expect in the hospital and my diet in the coming weeks.  My husband went with me and it was really good to have that extra support.

June 2, 2008

My surgery is scheduled for June 2nd... but the cardiologist never faxed over a clearance after all the tests.  When my surgeon's nurse called over to have them faxed, she was told that I never showed up for any tests.  I told her the put an iv in and injected me with nuclear substance- they better have some record of it!
After a short cooling off period, I received a phone call from the Cardiology group stating that I never showed up for my post testing consult with the doctor.  I mentioned that they never gave me a follow-up appointment or mentioned that I needed to schedule one.  Eventually, I got in to see the cardiologist- who just happened to be a different doctor that I saw the first time. (You know, the one who ordered all the extra tests.)  Well this doctor decided that I needed one more test before I could receive clearance.  He even said that he doesn't see anything wrong with my heart, but wants to be sure.  Great, I say- what's one more test as long as you get it done before 5/23, because I am scheduled for pre-op that day.  As you can imagine, it is extremely stressful that this last test is going to delay things.  I get the test and get the cardiac clearance at exactly 5:15 pm on 5/22- Everything is great and I am going to pre-op tomorrow!!!

Cardiac Clearance

Apr 28, 2008

I was scheduled to with a cardiologist to receive cardiac clearance for surgery.  What was suposed to be a routine thing turned into a mess!  I have high blood pressure, so even though the EKG results were fine- the cardiologist wanted to do a Nuclear Stress Test.  In addition, he prescribed a new blood pressure medicine for me.  To begin with, I had an adverse reaction to the new medication- instead of lowering my BP it raised it to 200/100.  Thank goodness I was at my surgeon's office at the time and he shares the office with his wife who is an Internist.... he got me right in to see her and she gave me some medicine to bring the BP down fast.  Now back to the Nuclear Stress Test, because of my body weight the test had to be administered two separate days.  One day of sitting still and one day of power walking on a treadmill; fasting and being injected with radioactive substance both days.  I also had a Echocardiogram.  To my knowledge, everything is now fine and I can schedule the surgery.

My Journey Begins...

Image hosted by Photobucket.comI made the decision to have gastric bypass surgery and found a wonderful surgeon.  With the help of his office staff, I am jumping through the hurdles to receive clearance and to set my surgery date.
