2 Year Surgiversary

Dec 27, 2012

Well 27-Dec was 2 years since my RNY.  It took me 13 months to lose 100# and I have maintained that 100# loss.  My weight fluctuates a pound...or two but I am at a 100# loss.  I weigh 190 and I am 5'8".  I would love to be 160 and even though my calories are about 1200-1600 daily, I don't seem to lose any more weight.  I was exercising six days a week the first year but now I'm lucky to get in exercise at all but then again, I work six days a week, 12 hours a day so I'm truly tired.....

I haven't had any complications at all with my surgery.  I am not the type of person who eats a couple of bites and gets full.  I can eat "normal" portions and get full.  I do add lots of veggies and protein to my meals so I get full with good food and not poor food choices.  I do eat junk food occasionally but I find I can eat more of junk food and feel sickly afterwards.  I prefer to eat good, healthy food so I feel good.  I hate the feeling after I eat junk food....just my preference now.... I'm very happy with my decision of my RNY.  I just wish I had the surgery years ago.....

I do worry about gaining weight but my habits have changed for the good so I feel confident I'll never get to 290 again.  I do weigh every day and I do log my weight every day....I'm still paranoid about being fat again but then again, I don't feel like I'll let myself get there again.....I think my paranoia is that I'm 190 and so close to 200.  That 200 mark scares me...I want to be far, far away from it but I stay around 189 - 192.....

Here's hoping for at least another 30# weight drop in 2013!

1 year 10 months

I'm still maintaining a 100# loss.  Feeling great.  I still want to lose another 30# but the weight just doesn't seem to budge.  Ok, maybe I have some muscle gain because of the working out but honestly, it is so frustrating to see the scale fluctate up and down but not stay down.....I feel good though and I'm healthy.  That's all that really matters....right????

pre-surgery weight: 290
Current Weight: 190
Goal: 160

7 Months Post-Op

Jul 27, 2011

Well today is my seven month anniversary for RNY surgery.  I went from 290 to 215 so a 75# loss in seven months.  The weight loss has been slow, possibly because I am a revision from the Molina band to the gastric bypass.  Don't know but I do know I will reach goal eventually.

Three months post-op

Mar 28, 2011

Well Sunday was 3 months post-op.  I am apparently a slow loser and the loss seems to come in spurts.  I will lose a three to five pounds, then the loss will stop for about two weeks.  I have now lost 52#.  I can certainly feel the difference and have donated alot of clothing already (making room for the new stuff...lol).  I eat pretty healthy but haven't exercised as much as I could.  No excuses, just laziness.  Anyway, things are going well; no problems at all.

40# Loss

Feb 12, 2011

I am now six weeks post op and have finally lost 40#.  The weight loss seems to be slow but when you add the weight loss up to 40, it seems fast to have lost 40 # in such a short period of time.  Of course, 15# of this was from the two week liquid diet.  I am happy with the weight loss.  I can see the loss in my face and stomach.  My pants are loose, I just add a belt and all is okay.  I imagine another 10 to 20# loss, I'll have to buy some more clothes to get by.  I am really trying to focus on getting my protein in, less carbs, all my water, etc.  Alot to concentrate on but really want to be healthy. Some days I get all my protein in, some days I don't.  All depends on how busy I am.  I am trying to buy things such as turkey jerkey, high protein bars, etc that I can pack in my purse and snack on.  Anyway, am very happy with having lost 40#.  Very nice to have loose clothes for a change..... :)

Two weeks post op

Jan 09, 2011

Tomorrow will be two weeks post op and have lost 26# including pre op.  Everything is going well.  I am on pureed foods and find that I keep trying to find foods that I can eat that have high protein.  I just need to find something and be consistent and eat that same food for at least the next week.  In one more week, I graduate to soft foods.  I'm sure I'll be back in that situation on deciding what I can eat and what I cannot eat.  I did try eating deli tuna salad yesterday and became really sick.  I'm not sure if I dumped or if I'm eating too much too quick.  Not really sure how to do this just yet but will try harder.  I have a good friend that had this surgery a little over a year ago and she is my mentor.  I think God for her.

My stomach still feels a bit raw, I am not exercising like I should but I will try and do better.  For now, I eat refried beans, scrambled eggs, Atkin shakes, and Isopure.  Drinking the Isopure ensures I get my protein in but I get so sick of it.

Anyway, my blog for Sunday, 09-Jan-2011.

Surgery completed -- check!

Dec 30, 2010

Well surgery was Monday and all went well.  I was very groggy on Monday afternoon but was wide awake on Tuesday and hitting the hall ways to get my walking in.  My husband was calling me speed racer.  I felt great, had hardly any pain, just mostly discomfort in my stomach.  I had WLS before in 1988 and that band was removed in March but because of that my stomach was a little extra thick so Dr. Garth wanted to keep me in an extra night for observation.  Everything went well.  All vitals were fine, I was moving, taking my shower, good spirits, etc.  I was ready to go home!

I had lost 15# on my pre-op diet and came out weight 9# more due to the extra gas.  I was down 4# this morning (three days post-op).  I'm not going to go crazy on the numbers, just focus on losing weight and eating healthy.

Surgery: Monday - 27-Dec-2010 8am
Released Wednesday - 29-Dec-2010 1pm

Am sipping alot of water, Isopure, coffee and ate some fat free Greek yogurt today.  Will have some cream of something soup tonight.

My first post-op doctor's appt is Monday, 03-Jan-2011 - Happy New Me!!!

Third time is the charm

Dec 01, 2010

Well, this will be the third attempt.  I hope things go right this time.  I had the Molina band in 1988 and had it removed March 2010.  The only thing is when I went to have the band removed, I was supposed to get the Vertical Sleeve. That didn't happen but my stomach was torn in the process.  I am now working with Dr. Garth Davis and have been approved by insurance and Dr. Garth to proceed with my RNY.  I am ready to have this surgery and start losing weight.  I am so sick of being overweight, I just want to be comfortable and healthy so hopefully the third time is the charm.  This will be RnY this time which should have been the second but we live and learn.  I have the utmost confidence in Dr. Garth Davis....

I have to vent!!!

Feb 28, 2010

Today a couple of co-workers and I were discussing WLS.  One of the ladies mentioned that she had a couple of friends who had WLS and had not lost all of their weight but she "caught" them at the ball park eating Cheetos and Nachos!!!!!

I actually was shocked when she said that and asked her point blank, what makes them so different than her that she could eat junk food but they could not?  Is there something written on their forehead they are not allowed to enjoy the simple pleasures in life only because they decided to have WLS?

I just don't understand how narrow minded some people can actually be....really pissed me off...
