I've been overweight since I was a child and can remember being on my first diet in grade school. When I was in the 6th grade, I had collarbones for the first time - and I saw myself as fat.

Until the last couple of year I have been a 'healthy' fat person, with no co morbidity issues, except the looming family history of heart disease.  In the past 3 years, I'm been diagnosed with several issues included type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, high blood pressure and high cholesterol to name a few.  Age and weight have caught up with me and if something does not change, I will surely either die early or at least become less and less mobile, since my knees, hips and back are really beginning to bother me as well.

I tried in 2006 to get my insurance to cover my WLS, but it was denied - not medically necessary.  I'm sure we missed some little deadline or paper that was required.  My insurance carrier has changed, so I'm applying again for WLS.  I have an appointment with the surgeon in October.

I continue to maintain a positive outlook and know that with the support of my friends and family, this too shall pass.
