~*~I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~*~ I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind, I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.~*~Hugs~*~

8-25-03 Wow....I can't believe its been 6 months since i've posted to this page. So much has gone on in my life since i've had the surgery. I'm now 10 months postop and i've lost 126#. In 4 more pounds i'll weigh exactly what i've lost. I started at 260#. I feel great! I'm off all my blood pressure and high cholesterol meds. My cholesterol has come down to 208 from 245. I do still have to take my Lupus meds. but thats ok. Its only 2 shots a week i give myself and it keeps everything in check. I went to Six Flags in New Orleans a few weeks ago and I just want everyone to know that ASS FIT IN EVERY SEAT!!! :-P My kids kept laughing at me because i'd slide around in the seats because i had room! And i've been to the beach a couple of times. That's been fun too. I started in a size 22-24 (tight) and now i'm into a size 6 womens, 8 misses and a 10 in juniors. I'm actually shopping in the same areas as my 17 yr old. Of course, i'm not really crazy about the styles they wear, but its fun to be able to try them on. I'm excited about Christmas this year. I'm going to buy that sexy black or red Christmas dress just because I can. And i'm going to wear it somewhere. Just not sure where yet!!! Ha. As far as my eating this far out of surgery. I can pretty much eat anything except sugar. I still can't tolerate it. It gives me a horrible stomach ache then I get very very tired and have to lay down. Sometimes i'm my worst enemy. I'll eat a little debbie snack just to prove to myself that I can, but of course I can't! Stupid me!! Its all in the mind. And its still hard sometimes to know how much you've eaten. I don't weigh my food anymore. But I do know that I can eat one whole taco. Two tacos is too much. so somewhere inbetween is my limit. I can usually eat 3/4 of a mexican pizza at taco bell and about 1/2 of a medium sub at Firehouse Subs (but of course thats just the guts of the sub and maybe the top half of the bread part. Too much bread will fill you too fast. Not a good idea..then it expands in the tiny tummy and hurts!) Its been an adventure for sure! I'd do it again in a heartbeat, although I still think my family would rather not have almost lost me to this, but they are supportive now. I would love to talk with anyone thinking of having the surgery or those of you who are postop and would just like to talk with someone who's had it. Good luck to all who are somewhere in this journey. Its the ride of your life..enjoy it. Laura

Laura, I read your post... Its not unusual to be depressed after any kind of surgery. Your body has been through so much. I'm sure all of that and the fact that you had to be in the hospital for 3 weeks has been harder on you than you realize, not to mention the infection. I bet you're going to be feeling much better and much happier soon. Just think how wonderful next Christmas will be! Best wishes to you. :o)

Hello everyone! Boy is it good to be back home. I was in the hospital for almost 3 weeks. I had my surgery on 10-10-02 and i had a leak, had to have a second surgery to repair it and during that surgery I guess some fluid got through the tiny leak and I got an infected abcess in my abdominal cavity. They put a catheter in between my ribs on the left side to drain the infection for over a week. And before that they drained 800cc of fluid off my left lung. It just seemed like one thing after another. But today i'm finally feeling better. I got my B-12 shot at the docs the other day and it seems to have helped alot. My side is still draining a little and it hurts still but I'm optimistic. I just wanted to let ya'll know how i'm doing. I'm so happy to hear of all the successful surgeries and To all of you having surgery I hope you have an uneventful recovery. Laura

Hello again, Heather here. I got to visit Laura today and she is doing a lot better now that all of the unnecessary holes have been patched. She is definitely pretty parched now because they have kept her NPO for the entire four days but it looks like ice chips are on the menu for tomorrow. Please continue to keep her in your prayers for a fast recovery and... ice chips!
