6 Days Post-Op

Oct 04, 2009

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I  haven't been around much, but my body just wanted to sleep.  Is that normal?Anyway, I am
6 days post-op. I am sore, especially on my left side. Biggest challenge to date is getting in my protein and hydration.
But there is excellent news. I am a type 2 diabetic, and I have high blood pressure.  The hospital had already taken me
off of my Avandamet, which is an oral diabetic med, and had also took me off of my nighttime insulin, Lantus Solostar.
They instructed me to drop my daytime insulin to 1/2 of my regular dose. When I took my fasting blood sugar yesterday
morning, it was only 139, which is usually what it is when I am on all my meds! Then I decided to weigh myself. I know, I said I wouldn't do that for a while. Well, the night before surgery, I weighed 241 lbs, as of yesterday morning, I weighed in at 231.6 lbs!  UNBELIEVABLE!  It has been a real motivator.

Allow me to back track just a bit to the hospital experience. Keep in mind that I can be a big baby when it comes to pain, so I asked friends and co-workers who have had the surgery, to be honest with me. The worst part of the hospital experience, was getting my JP drain taken out.  IT HURT! I'm not trying to scare anyone here, and please know it's different for everyone. I told the resident that took out my drain, that this caused more pain than having a 9lb baby, and I wasn't lying.  Was it worth it?  ABSOLUTELY! To all, who have upcoming surgeries, God Speed and best wishes!
Hugs,
Rita

2 Weeks before Surgery

Sep 12, 2009

Well here we are, two weeks before surgery. When things started moving, they really started moving.  While I prayed for a quick surgery date, in the back of my mind, I didn't think it would happen so fast. There are many emotions flying around. You know what I mean, but I have prayed and am positive that this is the beginning of a new life!
My pre-op appointment is this Monday, Sept. 14 and my pre-op is on Sept. 21.
Wooo, surgery is scheduled for Sept. 28.  I will be back in a few days with pre-op pictures.

Peace Be the Journey,

Rita

Just Starting...

Mar 05, 2009

Hello OH!

My name is Rita and I am just starting my journey to WLS and beyond. I weighed in on 3/3/09 at 232, with my six months ending on 9/3/09. My plan is to have lap-band surgery, with my main goal of resolving my type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

I am grateful for this website and the friends I hope to make. (I already have four friends! YEAH!)

Thank you for the support I've already received, and thank you in advance for the support to come.

Peace Be the Journey,
Rita
