60lbs

Nov 18, 2008

I have lost 60lbs.  It has probably been 10 years since I have been this weight.  Life has change and the increase energy is very apparent.  I can eat most things now but limited in the amount which is great.  I eat very small meals about 6 times a day.  I have just had 2 dumping episodes.  I can tell when my pouch is everfull which cause a fair amount of pain just below the breastbone.  The best thing is I do not regret this surgery for 1 second.  I will write again in a few days.

51 pounds

Oct 24, 2008

The pounds keep coming off.  It has slowed quite a bit however I am feeling better each day.  I made a pot of Vegetable soup this week.  I was amazed how much I could eat.  It was like I could not eat enough.  I posted a thread to the forum and asked why it was I could eat so much.  I had a response who said the soup is call sliders?  So I have consumed a bunch and still lost weight.  My weight is now down lower than it was in the late 90's.  I will write later !

49 pounds and counting

Oct 13, 2008

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted.  Things are going real well.  I have lost 49 pounds since my surgery date (18 Aug 08).  No complications to speak of.  I have lost a tremendous amount of fat from my face and neck (4 inch's from neck).  My abs are reducing as well (5 inches from abs).  I find that I can each salads and allot of it.  I can also go to Wendy's and eat a small Chili.  All in all my food choices have been good.  I find that I get hungry at night.  I try to satisfy it with sugar free pop-cycles.
This has been a life saver for me.  I am really pleased that I decided to get this surgery.  Will write later.......Bye

First dumping experience

Sep 08, 2008

Food for thought.  No pun intended.  I travel for business and frequently stay overnight at my favorite hotel.  I was in Pennsylvania last weekend and decided to stop at Denny's for breakfast.  Mind you I am 20 days post-op.  I look on the menu and decided to have a single scrampled egg and a bit of apple sauce.  I took 2 bites, chewed very well and swallowed.  It felt like it got stuck in my pouch.  Very painful.    I went to the bathroom and threw-up the very little I had ate.  This is a lesson learned on my part.  I will pack my own food for now on.  Lately I have been craving to have a beer.  I will have my first followup this Thursday before trying that.

I have now lost 36 pounds !!!

30 pounds

Sep 01, 2008

2 weeks and 1 day post-op and 30 pounds gone.  It is unbeleivable! I have not had any complications to speak of.   My followup with my MD is on 11 Sep.  this is the best decision I have every made.  Every day is getting better and better.  I actually walked 1 mile yesterday.  I had to take a break half way, but not bad.  I will write back shortly.

Home after Surgery

Aug 22, 2008

The events of my surgery is what I can recall.  It does not mean what really happened. On 18 Aug 08 I arrived at the surgical unit at UVA.  My loving wife Candy at my side.  An army of doctors, nurses, anesthesiologist and others streamed thru my curtain laden room to ask questions.  With everyone I seen that morning I halfway expected to see Kobe and Labron of the USA basketball team to walk thru.  After the surgical prep, my competent anesthesiologist wheeled me back to the operating room where I was met by a room full of other professionals ready to dive into my mid section to rearrange the plumbing.  I almost asked for a party tray of my favorite cheeses and meats to celebrate my decision to meet these wonderful life-givers and for my choice to change my life.  I remember remarking to  all of them in my most witty way to break the nerves and anticipation which has built up the past year.  It was quite melodramatic so I thought better of the Whit and tempered my comments.  Anyway that was the last thing I remember before being woken up by one of the medical students in recovery.  They told me the surgery took 4 hours due to the visceral fat intertwined in and around my abdomen.
The surgury was a success.  I was discharged from the hospital on 20 Aug, less than 2 days after surgery.  I have alot of soreness in my belly and swelling round my ankles.  My parents picked me up and took me to there house in Bridgewater - a small community about an hour west of Charlottesville, Va.  I stayed at my parents house until yesterday when my wife picked me up and finally made the treck home (about 6 miles) where I could finally be the king of my castle once again.  My mother is the greatest of caregivers which I thank.  My dad is the best of moral supporters which I thank.
So here I sit on Sat morning, 23 Aug 08.  I just got off the scales which I have officially lost 11 pounds since Monday .
I will write back shortly for an update !!
