My first post...

Oct 29, 2009

When I was young I was always the husky kid.  Through my middle school years and beyond I lost all the baby fat that I had and was doing quite well.  I had no weight issues in highschool due to fact that I was a 2 sport athlete who spent alot of time working out and staying active.  I must admit my highschool days were very good to me.   My college years brought on a few pounds due to the poor eating habits and beer drinking that happened while away at school but nothing major.  Workouts were few and far between and the parties were a regular activity ;)  After I graduated from college I lived on my own with a couple of roomates who liked to workout so we joined a gym and stayed in shape.  During this time I was in a major car accident and broke 9 bones above my neck.  4 in my neck, fractured skull, cheek bones, nose etc...  I wore a halo for a couple of months.  I credit my recovery and survival to the religious workouts I had at that time.  During my recouperation I gained additional weight up to 270lbs.  I joined Nutrisystem and worked out daily until I lost my weight and got back to great shape.  This was the beginning of my weight loss rollercoaster.

I met my wife after losing the accident weight and we were engaged.  Like all couples in love we enjoyed dating and running around and painting the town red.  During our 2 year courtship my weight blossomed back up to 260+.  I joined Jenny Craig 3 months prior to my wedding and lost 30 pounds.  We had our children early in marriage and I have since then steadily climbed the weight chart 5-10lbs per year.  Approximately 2 years ago I started my inquires into weight loss surgery.  I began to meet a few people who had success which spurred my desire to continue to see if this would be the right fit.  My real estate business slowed and had plenty of time to get things started with the approval process.  It took almost 2 years get an approval after a couple of appeals.

My top weight was 361lbs which was registered at my Dr.'s talk 1 month prior to surgery. Dr. Ali asked me to lose some weight prior to my surgery and suggested the drink shakes to help out. I took these a month prior to surgery and worked out a few days a week.  Day of surgery I weighed 341 (I think the scale must've been broke, lol) I weighed myself a week prior at 355.  I guess I'll take it.  I felt pretty good about that prior to my surgery.

I finally had my surgery yesterday 10/28.  Came through pretty well.  The staff and nurses at Fountain Valley Hospital in Orange County, CA were great.  It's my second day and I have just finished my CIB w/protein and feel pretty good about myself for taking the big step.  I truly feel that I can permamently lose it this time around.  I'm in a good mental state and look forward in posting future messages of success and motivation.

I am blogging for the first time ever due the motivation I received in reading other individuals blogs and stories of success!  I hope mine ends up in the same way.  Thanks for reading and look forward to hearing from you all.
