06/14/08 - My lap band journey began in Oct 2007 at the informational meeting & weighing 250 lbs. I had been contemplating between the Lap band & RNY. My first appointment was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving & I started the sixth month program on Wednesday. My family could not believe that I would start the day before Thanksgiving instead of waiting until the following week. I was ready to start & I didn't miss any part of overstuffing myself & feeling miserable for it.. I had lost about 15 lbs & regained 10 during the six month pre weight lossdiet which was required by my insurance. Once I had completed the six months, my doctors office submitted all the paperwork & within 2 business days I had my approval. I started my 2 week pre-surgery optifast & weighed 246. Two days prior to surgery I had all of my pre-op lab work & weigh in I was at 235 lbs. I had my Surgery on Thursday June 12th, two days ago. Because of my insurance, I had to stay overnight in the hospital. I came home yesterday & was still able to get my 2 mile walk in. I have not had a lot of pain, but a little tenderness where the port is. Today I was at 232lbs. I love martial arts & playing softball, but doing these activities with all this extra weight made it difficult at times, but I didn't let it stop me from doing the things I love to do. I know it will be easier for me to participate in these activities when the extra weight is gone.
First Fill 7/15/08
07/20/08 - I hadn't had much difficulty eating except for broccoli which I love. I have to be very careful to not get ANY stems. Now that I have had my first fill, I haven't had any type of breads, rice or pastas. I am afraid of the PB & do not like the way it feels. I did have a piece of chicken but could only eat about half of it. I have more difficulty eating early in the day than I do in the evening. Then I tend to eat more than I think I should. I still take my time & chew well but i seems to be too much.
