My story isn't very interesting. I'm 36, totally forget that I'm that old most of the time, and morbidly obese. Woohoo!

Ok, that's definitely not something to celebrate. I have several comorbidities: anxiety, major depressive disorder, ulcerative colitis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and sleep apnea. Needless to say, I'm a walking pharmacy.

Something changed in me this year. In January, when everyone makes New Year resolutions, I decided that I could sit here and gain another 10 pounds this year or I could make the changes I know are needed to stay around for another 36 years. I found a reputable medical weight loss clinic. At my first appointment, the specialist recommended bariatric surgery. I was in shock for a moment. I knew I was big, but I didn't know I was that big. So, I was referred and put on the registry. Here I am.

I have stuck with the program. I am totally and completely motivated to improve my health related quality of life. I have lost 40 pounds on my own this year through diet and exercise (and when I say diet, I mean changing to healthy eating habits... not a crazy fad diet).

At the end of this month (Aug 2015), I find out if I am approved for surgery. That's when the journey really begins.
