Inova Fair Oaks Hospital

"I would like the nurses to have more specific information about the surgery and dietary requirements especially on the ward where most WL patients are located."

William, Jr. Roll

"My first impression of the Dr was that he was the grandfatherly type. He is very brief, but gentle at the same time. He has very soft hands. He emphasizes two things: 1) he states and reiterates that "you will never eat the same again," while waggling his fingers at you; and 2) you are the most important part of a team that will be working together for at least one year. He says that he's cancelled at least one patient who failed to complete the preop requirements only 5 days before surgery. So I'd say he's really strict. He doesn't operate on smokers and he has never lost a patient. He admits to having some complications. For example, he began asking patients to have an upper GI xray within the last few years because he once opened a patient whose stomach was off to the right side and he could do nothing but close her back up. So he says that the requirement is just a precautionary measure. I've told him about the website and he's heard it before, but admits to having a computer, but no real experience or knowledge of how to use it. But I really liked him - I mostly like his record. I previously read about a doctor who lost 3 patients in one month or something like that and tried to email the person about it, but she never responded. I just wanted to avoid a doctor like that. So Dr. Roll's record is definitely reassuring since I have a 3 year old that I want to live for. As a note about the nutritionist, Sally is no longer there because she moved to Calif. with her husband, but she hand-picked another person, Kim L., who I haven't met yet. I'm looking forward to working with Dr. Roll and his charming, capable staff in the next year."
