I am currently a 28 year old female.  I was at my most fit when I was in drill team in high school.  Back then I weighed I weighed 135 at my heaviest.  Over the past ten years, through college, birth control, loss of family members, boredom, compulsive eating, etc, I have gained about 100 lbs.  During that time I met a man (and married him) who absolutely loves me for me.  However, as my age progresses and our relationship progresses, I continued to think about how much more exciting our lives could be together (and how much longer our lives could be together) if I started to take care with my health and get back down to my ideal weight.

I went to my doctor's office and they gave me some broccoli type shake things that just made my life miserable and told me I had high cholesterol.  Later on down the road, I was told I had high blood pressure as well.  After a number of different attempts at weight loss to control this, I began looking into weight loss surgery.  Over the past two years, I rather informally tossed the idea around in my head and with my husband.

I finally got to a point where I was getting absolutely NO sleep at night and decided to have my new doctor recommend that I have a sleep study.  When I was diagnosed with acute sleep apnea (and when I saw that weight loss surgery is often a cure for this), I realized my mind had been made up.

I went through all the necessary steps to get approved for surgery.  AND I found out that I no longer had high cholesterol or high blood pressure.  Imagine my relief.

Many people have asked me why in the world someone as small as me would need this surgery.  I reply, "You've never seen me naked in the mirror!!"  We laugh.  But then I explain that I'm a young woman, with relatively few health problems.  Why not get the surgery (since no other attempts have been successful) and prevent future health problems for even occurring instead of waiting until it's too late and trying to reverse all the damage I've already done to my health and to my body.

I had my surgery on October 20, 2008.  I am now going on my third week post-op.  Between the liquid diet and the mushy foods after, I have already lost 25 lbs!!!  That's about a quarter of the weight I initially wanted to lose!!!  I'm already in Lane Bryant's smallest size!!  I'm looking forward to buying cheaper clothes and the new found confidence I am already experiencing!!!

I can't wait for my new body!!!
