Jeffrey Berger Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Berger is very professional and explains the total procedure as well as the upside and downside of this surgery. His office staff is wonderful espicially Andrea she worked closely with me and became a support group all in one. She called to check on me even after the surgery. Two years later I still got calls from Andrea just checking on me. Dr Berger is a great doctor and his office staff are wonderful. I hope if anyone wants WLS in the Virginia Beach area they will talk to Andrea and tell her Angela said hello. Since I have relocated out of state.

My first impression of Dr. Berger is that he is a straight forward, confident, and knowledgeable man. The office staff so far seems to be just great. I look forward to working with him in the coming months.

I liked Dr. Berger right from the beginning. He is straight up with you and very personable. I still like him, he's a good doctor. His office staff can be less desirble but deal with them just to get to him and INSIST on talking/seeing him if it seems like you are getting a runaround. He even tells you to insist on being seen or talking to him because he is a very busy surgeon but he wants you to know you are important to him. I would rate him EXCELLENT overall.

Dr. Berger is very helpful, and patient doctor. He is great with answering questions.I met several of the staff at his office and they did NOT treat me like I had a problem and should just control myself. They understood and were very supportive and helpful.

Dr. Berger is definately a no-nonsense person. I think that if you are going to be one of Dr. Berger's patients you should ask him questions (all those that sound stupid) and know that he will support you.

Having only one meeting with him and not having a date set for surgery. I will give updates later. (had my date on 5-16-04 and weigh 121 lbs now =) )

Oh Did I mention that he removed my gallbladder 2 years ago.

*************Adrea Wertenbach, CMA has the patience of a saint. I called her
almost every other day. She never once yelled at me or told me not to call (LOL). She is one of those people that make you comfortable.

Dr.Berger and his MA Andrea are great. His seminar before he will see you for a consult are very informative and all my questions were answered. I can call Andrea any day of the week and she will answer my questions or give me the pep talk that I need, they have both been very encouraging through the whole process. From getting a appproved to the post op care.

Dr. Berger is awesome! Although I never saw him at the hospital - one of his associates Dr. Gelpi came and checked on me everyday until I was released. Staff - especially Andrea are great to work with - all questions and concerns dealt with in a timely manner. He was and is very thorough about the risks of surgery and what to do and not to do after surgery. The only complaint is his "booklet" for surgery before and afters is a little vague and not full of alot of info - which can be worked around. So far - I've had a two week post surgery check up (staples removed etc. and then another in three weeks. I believe that after that I will see him in another month and less frequent after that. Overall i have had a good ecperience with everyone in Dr. Berger's practice - Coastal Surgical group. I consider surgical competence to be better and more beneficial.

Dr. Berger is very open and puts you at ease from the very beginning. He and his assistant are both wonderful. I have had Dr. Berger do another surgery in the past, so I know his qualifications and i trust him completely. I would recommend him and his staff to anyone in the Tidewater area of Virginia. He offers a monthly support group which is very active. He explains what you can and cannot do after surgery and makes sure that you understand. Best factor of all ... he has a great overall rating for numerous surgeries and very few complications.

I really have nothing nice to say about my doctor or the staff........I will say this I would take a doctor who I have nothing nice to say about but is good at his job.....he is an excellent surgeon and knows his job......the way he is as a person well others can be the judge of that......I would suggest him only because he has done over 600 of the open rny's.

He has a wonderful assistant ANDREA she is the type of person you know will go to bat for you. She is the reason it took only 3 days for me to be approved she was GREAT.

Dr. Jeffrey Berger was very warm, knowledgeable, and took as much time as I needed to answer my questions. He freely discussed the good and bad about the surgery and his surgical experiences. He discussed the post-op period at length. I really liked him and felt very comfortable with him and his assistant Andrea. He is very organized and friendly. He does not mind answering any question and carefully looks at your medical history. Strongly emphasis aftercare compliance. I would rate him 9 on scale of 1-10. I would give him a 10 if he had a support group for his bariatric surgery patients.
Dr. Berger called me after my inital visit to answer additional questions I had regarding the surgery. He was very patient and informative.
I do not remember seeing Dr. Berger before the surgery, I was medicated and do not remember going to the OR. After I recovered he was gone and his partners, Dr. Brown and Dr. Gelpi saw me until discharge, therefore I did not see Dr. Berger for my entire admission. This was concerning to me as we had discussed some care issues that did not happen because the other physicians were not aware. The care I recieved from the partners of Dr. Berger was excellent and I have not one complaint. I just wish I could have seen my physician after my surgery. Dr. Berger did speak at length to my family and they were very impressed with him and his care of me.
