Did anyone cheat on their pre-op diet? If so, how much and how did it affect you, if any?

Just wondering....

Nope. "Cheating" (or improper food choices) got me where I am now. Why would I want to sabotage my second chance?

Depends on the surgeon, and depends on the cheat.

Some surgeons want you to shrink your liver on a liquid diet. If you don't do so sufficiently, s/he might cancel your surgery.

The pre-op diet is also meant to help get your head in the game and get you serious. If you can't follow instructions beforehand, how the heck are you going to be compliant afterwards? Especially when "cheating" soon post-op can have dangerous medical consequences?

I was very strict on my pre-op "liver shrinking" diet, because I knew that if my liver was too big, my surgeon would not be able to do the surgery laproscopically and might even cancel it. I was obsessive, to the point that the first questions I asked coming out of anesthesia were, "How was my liver? Was it small?" I don't think I even asked about the actual sleeve until much later.

I am having issues with my sugar being low and feeling bad. Any ideas?

Contact your surgeon's office and let them know. Could you be feeling bad from your body detoxing form carbs, sugars (and in my case) caffeine?

I didn't cheat. I was very tempted to cheat a couple days before surgery, but I was afraid it would adversely affect the surgery. If you can tough it out and stick with the diet, you will be happy you did. Every successful day gets you closer to goal.

best wishes,

Carol

I've been warned by my bariatric team that the surgeon has no qualms canceling the procedure and rescheduling if he feels the diet wasn't followed and the liver isn't where he feels it should be.

That would scare me enough to stay on the followed diet .. the only thing worse than going through it once would be to have to reschedule and go through it twice.
