My surgery is scheduled for 8am tomorrow morning. I am a ball of nerves.... Some helpful advice for the 24 hours after and first week would be great. What did you drink for the first 24 and week?

Hi, I am 2 weeks post op today. The first 24 hours I just sipped on water. Really did not even want that I was so nauseous. The first week was water and protein shakes, it took me almost a week to get the protein goal, but I was at my fluid goal within 3 days. Take it slow and you will do great. Congrats on surgery tomorrow. I was so nervous too and it was fine. I have my post op tomorrow...the time has flown.

Sip water as much as you can. Also get lots of mini-walks in around your house.

I followed my surgeon's food plan and I don't remember off the top of my head what it is for the first week except it was all liquid. There are some that are able to get all of their protein in from the beginning but I was not one of them. My surgeon was not concerned about it in those early days. Getting your water/fluids in, tho, is non-negotiable.

All that said, best of luck on your journey! Of course there will be some bumps along the way, but overall you are going to have a terrific year! Keep us updated.

Walk as soon as you can. I sipped on the lemon flavored frozen ice cups.

All of the above. Plus if you are having nausea or pain in the hospital don't hesitate to ask for mediation. You need to be able to rest and get in your fluids to heal and be able to get up and move.
