8 Year Anniversary!

Sep 13, 2010

WOW!  I can't believe it has been 8 years since my WLS! I had a Gastric Bypass 8 years ago yesterday!  It feels like a lifetime ago and yesterday all at once.   I am still maintaining my weight at around 125-130.  Saying that I am maintaining it is a little misleading, I don't really have to do anything to maintain it.  I guess I am lucky that way.

As for side effects. I am constantly anemic.  I used to donate blood regularly before surgery  but because of the anemia I have not been able to since surgery.  My hair was thin before surgery but it got somewhat thinner after and has stayed that way.

I think the biggest side effect is what I like to eat now.  If I named my favorite foods before surgery and after you would see two totally different lists.  I think because over 8 years I have learned what my tummy is going to like and not like.  Obviously I love the taste of steak but I don't love it bothering me for hours after I eat it!

The biggest thing I think is the self image.  This is really strange for me at least.  I am thin, I know I am thin and I am usually happy with how I look in the mirror, But in my head I am still the fat girl I was for most of my life.  If someone says to me you are so thin or you are so little I smile and say thanks but I still really don't believe it.  I think this is something that is hard to understand before you have surgery but after you loose your weight  you will understand perfectly.

So to sum it all up at my 8 year anniversary I would do it again in a heartbeat, I still wish I had done it 10 years earlier than I did.
