10 year update

May 29, 2013

The surgery was extremely successful. Unfortunately, removing a kidney and being told protein is my enemy has led me down a horrid path. I continue to gain weight and am now holding at 238.  Now that my remaining kidney is functioning extremely well, I am told I can return to protein. Oh great...after I've gained about 84 pounds. Thanks Dr's!! So now I find myself ready to start the journey all over again!

Two months ago I was diagnosed with a small bowel obstruction in the area where it connects to the pouch. Because of this obstruction, I will be having a surgery to remove the obstruction. During the procedure the bariatric surgeon is also going to check size of pouch and a couple other things. The goal - bypass revision. It will not be done during this first procedure but rather will be a second procedure. I'm fine with that...whatever it takes!

Having the added weight again has led to a limited lifestyle where I once again can no longer join in many activities. Walking is so hard some days that my entire life has been altered, again.

I need to focus on the positive. I have a wonderful Dr I met while in the hospital a couple months ago for the bowel obstruction. He will do the first procedure, then is "boss" will do the second procedure 2.5 hrs from our home - pending insurance approval that we believe we will obtain.

I still have no regret that I did the procedure ten years ago, just wish my body would have cooperated and my kidney wouldn't have failed. I had a good 7 years in with a good solid record of maintaining. I can do this again, absolutely!!!

Hope you all are doing well on your journeys and never give up!
