I thought that maybe it was time to write a bit about myself.
I started this weight loss journey in July 2014. I had been having trouble walking, which grew increasingly worse day after day. It began to interfere with my work, social life and my driving. After seeing my Dr. and told that I have severe osteoarthritis, he sent me to a knee surgeon. After taking one look at me, the surgeon said that he couldn't do anything for me until I lost about 150lbs and suggested I look into weight loss surgery.
I have been a heavy girl all my life, and had from time to time thought about wls to assist with my struggles but in the end continued the road of yo yo diets. Well as we know all too well, this just doesn't work and I found myself at 310 lbs, with severe arthritis, not able to walk or drive, not able to work and off on sick leave, and left wondering what is going to happen to me at the age of 44.
Well I got my Dr. to send in the referral for surgery in Sept. 2014. The long wait had begun for the information package to arrive for orientation, but I spent every waking hour reading, watching and researching the internet for every morsel of information about RNY gastric bypass surgery.
It has been a long wait from referral to now, but I am happy to say that my surgery is booked for March 28, 2016 with Dr. Starr from Humber River Regional Hospital. I am very happy to have him as my surgeon and have heard so many great things about him.
I know that this tool that I am going to be given will be a blessing, and I will work with it the best I can to get back to a life that I can't wait to live again. I have missed out on so much over the past year and a half not being able to walk, but I know that with this surgery my life is going to change.
I have great friends and family that support me with this decision, and a few who are scared for me, but I know that it is because they love me. I am positive and confident that this surgery will change my life for the better and allow me to live the life I deserve.
