Making Life Happen

Jun 30, 2011

I'm now 3 months post-op and can't believe how fast time is going by! Since the last time I posted I've managed to ride several roller coasters, climb a few "mountains" in the Smoky Mountain National Park, finish a 5K, and buy smaller clothes. I've been on the road a lot lately, which unfortunately has left me having to resort to eating on the road....that is a Hard!!! I did find some protein shots at Wal-Mart which have helped me get in the required protein during the day, each one 25 g. of protein and only takes about 4 good sized sips until it's GONE! This is very important especially since I can no longer tolerate much meat if any at all. :(

I've learned how to make some wicked good blueberry smoothies, which definitely help on these hot summer days. Other than that, it's business as usual enjoying my summer vacation. Can't wait to go back to school in a month and a half with a newer look than I left with. Hopefully with a little more color since I was rocking out that White Girl Tan! :)

I'll be posting new profile pictures soon to show some of my journey over the last month or so.

All the best,
Katie

Boot Camp @ 6 weeks out

May 07, 2011

6 weeks already? Geesh! I can't believe time is flying now! This was a crazy busy week at work and I'm trying to put together a school cookbook for a fundraiser which is taking up a lot of my personal time. Despite being busy, I took some time for me and did a session of boot camp. I can't believe I did it. I ran (for the first time a very, very long time), I lifted, I did stair climbs, I did things I never thought I'd do again. When I was done, boy was I exhausted. Two days later I'm still finding it hard to sit down to do necessary things! LOL! :) However, I'm proud of myself and I can't wait for the next session to warm up these sore old muscles of mine.

Big Day!

Apr 28, 2011

Is it possible that I get to share my wedding anniversary with the new Royal Couple? Today I hit a new goal mark for myself. I've dropped over 40 pounds now since my two week pre-op diet. I'm 5 weeks out now from surgery and I have to say, I'm doing really well. I don't think I've ever lost this much this fast. However, i can see why when I'm only eating a bite here and there and drinking fluids like a fish. :)

I do need to hit up the resale shops to find some work pants and tops since all of mine have become very baggy and not flattering in the least. Oh darn!

Triathlon Researching Taking Place

Apr 18, 2011

The last several days I've been looking and planning and researching my first Triathlon which will take place the end of October. That means I have a really long way to go to get there, but I'm determined. Once payday rolls around again, I am joining the local Y to start a spinning class and some cardio. Of course my expectations at this point are pretty low, since I'm almost, but not quite a month post-op. I'm also hoping to figure out how to hit the pool while I'm there to squeeze in some laps each week since I'd rather be doing that I think. Atleast my butt won't eat the bike seat in the pool. LOL! However, small steps are definitely helping me in the right direction towards that trim and healthy body I've always wanted.

I did make a new friend on OH named Jillian who lives not too far from me, but also now competes in Triathlons. Perhaps one day I'll meet her when at a race. :)

More randomness: It's funny, I've noticed something else happening in my household, my mom is now watching what she is eating and wants to try all of my protein shakes. My younger sister is also working her way through NutriSystem, and my kids are not quite as pudgy since I've started buying only healthy foods. Life is Good! :)

Relay for Life

Apr 17, 2011

I volunteered as a chaperon for my school's Relay for Life Team again for the second time. Started off really well, got the tents up and then exhaustion set in. Prior to the event I had managed though to find and get a B-12 injection, and boy I sure did notice a difference. Too bad, I over did it at Relay and ended up spending 1/2 of it in a chair and then later in the tent. Not sure if the yogurt I took with me was bad or not, but I was sooo sick. The world was spinning around me and ultimately I had to leave early the next morning. I was so bummed because I had high hopes of making it more than once around the track. I just keep telling myself that next year I'll be a different person all together. Well, I'm hopeful. :)

The scales are moving again and I'm relieved. Increasing water is helping, too bad it's so hot, that I would much rather guzzle it down in one sitting than sip all day long. Definitely having to adjust to amounts is the hardest part of post-op diet so far. :)

Finally a little movement!

Apr 12, 2011

After a very long week of holding out and not weighing, I got on the scales this morning and I was down almost a pound. I'll take it! Added a fiber supplement to my diet and some new vitamins. Working on adding a little more protein each day and definitely more water! Still on really soft baby food stuff and puddings, but seem to be feeling better than I was a couple of days ago.

On the other hand I've found a Triathlon that I'm going to sign up for the end of October called the Tri-Cooter! I love the name of that, maybe I'm just a tad sick in the head, but it looks to be far enough away for me to get ready for it.  Just need to fit in my swimsuit. Won't be long though b/c my clothes are way more comfy and big now. :)

Back to Work & Stalled

Apr 08, 2011

This past week, I went back to work. Being a teacher, I'm stuck to a rigid schedule of when I can snack, drink, have lunch, etc. It was a hard week for me and I'm very frustrated with my diet. For the last 5 days I have weighed the same thing. I don't what I'm doing that I shouldn't be, or what else I can do that I should be doing. I know the weight isn't litarally going to fall off, but dang, when is it going to budge again. GRR!!!! I know this is just a hump in road and it will smooth out again, just not happy today with it.

That's a First!

Apr 03, 2011

I bought this really cute dress last year online from Old Navy in a size 24. I couldn't wear it because it was way too small. Well low and behold I go back to work tomorrow and that was going to be my back to work reveal dress. The dang thing was way too big!! I never would have guessed that would happen THIS FAST! Talk about a first, of what I hope to be MANY, MANY More! :)

Wowzers...almost 30 lbs in less than a month?!

Apr 01, 2011

I got on the scales this morning and hit a new # I haven't seen in a while. So excited to be down almost 29 lbs since the start of my two week diet three weeks ago. This diet rocks! The soreness has started to recede. It's easier to lay on my stomach. The most exciting part is my soccer ball size head, is starting to get some new sleeker cheeks! Love it!

Yesterday was the first time I've actually felt like myself since surgery. What a relief! Last night was the first night I slept for a continuous nine hours!!!

Today April 1st, 2011....I am loving what is happening! That's no joke!

Happy April Fools' Day! :)

A Week Already?

Mar 30, 2011

Wow...tomorrow a week ago I forever changed my life! Is it working? Heck yeah! Down 30 lbs from my heaviest a year go and 22 lbs from start of 2 week pre-op diet. Today  is the first day I have more energy since coming home. I did go to the grocery yesterday, but pushing the buggy drained me and I took a 3 hour nap when I got home. :(  The gas is finally starting to recede now and I can already tell a difference my love handles....there's not as much to grab! YAY!!!

Tooling around online last night I found some great blogs by fellow pouchers who have a plethora of recipes and tips that I definitely think will help boost this journey!
