Waiting on insurance final approval.

Sep 16, 2009

It has been a long, short journey. I never dreamed I could find a solution to my gaining weight. I found out another person at my company had the surgery and I was so happy for him. I realized my insurance is the same and maybe this is a possibility. So, July 30th, 2009 I met with my PCP and discussed what to do about my weight. I was at my highest of 372 lbs. We decided it was time to look into bariatric surgery as an option.

I made my first apt with Dr. Prewitt and called insurance to make sure it was really possible. It was. I started setting up a support system by asking key people to help. Someone from my social life (bowling) and someone from Church, also someone from work. That will help to keep me from cheating should I be stupid. also made sure I had someone to talk to in any environment to help.

I procedded to do lots of reading from the recommended books as well as other WLS books in library. I had my heart set on Lapband but after meeting with Dr. and reading, reading, and more reading.. I have decided that the full RNY will be a better choice and help me to lose more and keep it off.

I understand this is just a tool, I hope that exercise will help once I lose enough to workout with out injurying myself again. That is one of the main ways I have gained weight. I'm looking forward to working with PT group to find something that works, without hurting myself.

During the testing and apt before I can get final approval I have found out that my heart is very good shape in spite of my weight, but I have severe sleep apnea. Tomorrow after several weeks I should get the order for the CPAP machine. If everyone is right, this alone will help me alot and should make healing after surgery even easier. I am tired all the time and thought it was just the weight. knowing that it is severe sleep apnea is actually a relief since we can do something about this and maybe with the weight loss, I may only need it for a while.

Info has been submitted to insurance for final approval. They may take up to 30 days to approve. I hope it isn't that long. I will need to be on 2 weeks of liquid protien before the surgery. This will be no problem. In some ways I wish I could start now. Now that I have made up my mind it is hard to wait. I would like to have a date in October but I will have to wait.

There is a lot more to write about but I am getting tired now.

Thanks for reading!
