10 Days Post Op

May 10, 2009

Well, I finally had my surgery on April 30, 2009. It was a good experience for the most part. My mom dropped me off at the front door, I walked in, registered, and then I was taken back to a small "prepping" area. I put a gown on, they started an IV, then Dr. Marquez came in to say hi. I was given some NASTY medicine to gargle to numb my throat since I have my fusions in my neck and they were concerned about having an opening. It made me want to throw up. Soon after, I was wheeled into the OR. They put an oxygen mask on me and told me to breathe. Within a few minutes I was OUT. The next thing I knew I was being woken up in the recovery room. I remember being groggy but feeling no pain. Soon after I was taken to my room. I started to come around. All I did was sit up in bed and then try to walk a little while later. If I was not so tired, I would have walked sooner. I remember being really tired, and groggy.  Later that day I did get up and walk. It was not that bad. I had gas pain which was not fun, but not as bad as when I had my c-sections. I used my pain pump once or twice so I can feel relief from gas and get some sleep. The 2nd day I woke up and talked to Dr. Marquez, and then did some walking. They brought me some clears later that day. I sipped the broth, and I did throw up and dry heave a lot.

By Saturday Morning I was given the OK to leave and I was out of there by noon.
The next few days were ok. I was able to walk fine and the gas was getting better. Once I was home and in my own bed I was able to get the gas out by rolling around in the bed and switching sides. I spent the first 7 days drinking only water / crystal light because everything made me nauseas and have chest pain. The first 7 days I lost 2lbs a day for a total of 14lbs.

Today is the 10th day post op. I have not lost anything in 3 days. I have been tolerating small amounts of food. Yesterday I had a 1/3 of a package of cream of wheat for breakfast, for lunch was a an ounce or two of watered down chicken soup and the same for dinner. Today I had a 1/3 of package of cream of wheat for breakfast, a piece of chicken for lunch (ground up), and a sf jello for dinner w/ a sip of watered down soup (I didn't care for the soup so I went to the sf jello).

I hope I can start tolerating more foods. I am sick of feeling yuck and not seeing results. I at least want to see some weight loss since I am not able to tolerate anything, LOL. I am trying to get in as much water/crystal light as possible. Hopefully I will continue to lose.
