Barbi M.
I am 54 and have been in the world of fighting weight since I was 10 years old. I started out a pretty skinny kid, and then after the toncils were removed...I blossomed. My first weight related embarrassing moment was when I was in the 5th grade, the National Physical Testing was in process, and the kids were lined up in the cafeteria being weighed, when I stepped on the scale they announced 125lbs, one of the kids laughed and said his Mom didn't even weigh that much and the laughter and whispers went down the line. I never let my weight or size overcome my confidence because I had a very strong sense of humor, I was outgoing, and active even though a big girl. So, now I am 54 and I am still not broken down with my looks, or weight, but another evil side of obesity has suddenly attacked me, "type 2 diabetes", hypertension, and now my joints hurt so much I am not able to dance, or have the stamina to do the thing I love the most, musical theatre. I started researching surgery options, and found Dr Jordan Garrison, went to the seminar with my doubting husband who was not convinced this was a very safe procedure and both of us were informed and inspired.
I have completed all the requirements the surgery team has requested, and now am on my 2 month of Doctor supervised diet consultations with my primary care physician. I was very dissapointed to find out that even though I am a strong candiate fo the surgery, my insurance company is very strict with the 6 month documentation. I hope I will get the surgery this year, and not be delayed into next year.
