1 week out!

Apr 15, 2009

OK so it's been a week. its hard to say how much i have lost since my rny because you gain weight in the hospital with fluids etc. So from my heaviest as of today i have lost a total of 24 lbs. WELL on my way. My hospital experience was a little different then i had expected. Not really the going into surgery part. The after stuff. The morphine shots they gave me made me nauseous for 15 minutes and then pass out. They were effective for pain but the nurses didn't seem to understand why i was so tired all the time. I was like nodding sitting up, falling asleep with my glasses on. Kinda like i had narcolepsy, but it defiantly helped to deal with the pain. The morning after surgery and my first time out of bed guess who came to visit? AF! great thing to have when you have a catheter and can barely wipe yourself. Spent so much time cleaning up... then asked for my pain meds, but they didn't get the pain meds up from pharmacy before i was wheeled down to get my xrays and barium swallow.  It was like torture. No pain meds. All those muscles st reached out straight. for an hour. Then it was like they didn't know i had bypass cause they keep telling me to drink drink when i felt like i had no room. this was absolutely the worst experience i have had while i was in the hospital. Probably would have been avoided had my damn pain meds come up in time. I wouldda slept through it. I guess with so many people getting lap band now i noticed full sugar items on my bariatric menu that i knew i shouldn't eat so i left on my plate. I couldn't eat the whole thing of broth anyway. Taking that Jackson Pratt thing out hurt like a son of a bitch but it only lasted for like 3 seconds. It felt like someone was pulling my guts out on a string. going home in the car was painful. even with a pillow you feel every bump in the road.  Some side effects i have noticed at home that i will bring up at my doctors appt tomorrow. One of my laproscopic sites looks infected. I put some bacetracin on it today and will let the doc look at it tomorrow. the vein in my arm where they had the iv is swollen but down more towards my elbow... its weird. My uvula (punching bag thingy in the back of your throat) is long and touching my tongue. feels like i might swallow it. I am assuming it was bruised by the tube they put in your throat but i am checking tomorrow to be sure. for the first day or two everything tasted gross. slowly my taste is coming back to me. Other than that i feel better and better each day. Right now its like i can feel my muscles healing. My stomach is sore and my muscles feel tight. 25 lbs later i would do it all over again in a heart beat!
I have found from my experience that i am a WIMP and have like zero pain tolerance... i would have guessed that!
